British Business Bank
Michael Laycock is a Senior Investment Manager with the British Business Bank (“BBB”), the UK’s development bank. BBB runs a range of programmes to help improve finance to UK SMEs and since joining the Bank 4 years ago, Michael has been working on the Equity programmes, where BBB invests as an LP in venture and growth capital funds. He now specifically focuses on the Enterprise Capital Fund (“ECF”) programme which is a State-aid approved scheme aimed to help emerging fund manager raise institutional funds by providing a cornerstone investor while also having a structure to help incentivise private capital to invest in venture. The ECF programme has been running since 2006 facilitating ~£1.3bn of finance for early stage UK companies and helping fund managers such as Dawn, IQ Capital, Passion Capital and Entrepreneur First become established names in the UK VC market.
Prior to joining the Bank, Michael worked held a number of roles in financial services including Bank of New York Mellon, Barclays and Coal Pension Trustees, the management company of the £20bn former British Coal pension schemes.
